A 26-year-old woman in Brazil died after the window she was leaning against gave way, causing her to fall from the seventh floor of the building.

The deceased woman has been identified as Renata Rebeca Negrao Saldanha dos Santos. She was staying at the Rio Poty Hotel in Ponta d’Areia, Sao Luis, with her boyfriend when the incident happened.

The incident took place around 1.30 am on Tuesday. She fell onto the canopy above the hotel’s entrance but later succumbed to her injuries despite receiving immediate medical attention.

Disturbing Video Surfaces

The incident was caught on camera. In the video, her boyfriend, who was accompanying her at the time of the mishap, can be seen standing still for a few seconds before realising what had happened.

CCTV Captures Moments Before The Fall

Security footage shows Renata sitting on the edge of a corridor window before leaning against its aluminium frame. The frame suddenly gave way, sending her plunging from the seventh floor.

Her boyfriend, who was nearby, remained motionless for a few seconds before a hotel employee arrived and appeared to realise what had happened.

Police said the couple appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or other substances. Her boyfriend was taken in for questioning but was subsequently released.

Police Rule Out Signs Of Assault

George Marques, the police chief investigating the case, said the CCTV footage indicated that the incident was accidental, the Daily Mail reported.

“There was no push. He wasn’t even close to her," Marques said, according to the Daily Mail.

Investigators are expected to question hotel staff and may summon the boyfriend again as part of the probe.

Further, The Rio Poty Hotel expressed condolences to the family and said it was cooperating with the investigation.

Renata, a mother of two, including a four-year-old, was from Para and had travelled to Sao Luis with her boyfriend on October 28 to play poker. The couple was scheduled to return home on Tuesday.

Her mother, Betty Negrao, told local broadcaster TV Liberal, “My daughter went out to have fun, and I’m receiving her inside a coffin."
