Max Verstappen finished the final practice session for the São Paulo Grand Prix fastest, albeit in vain.
Verstappen headed into the final hour knowing he would start at the back of the grid due to a 30-place penalty for the fitting of a new internal combustion engine, turbocharger and exhaust on his Red Bull.
The four-time F1 champion posted the quickest lap of one minute 11.622s, 0.025s ahead of Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli, with Lando Norris third quickest in his McLaren, 0.131s down.
Lewis Hamilton's session ended after 35 minutes when he boxed with a smoky Ferrari. The seven-time F1 champion and team-mate Charles Leclerc both had a new internal combustion engine fitted ahead of the session.
