Adelaide Strikers vs Brisbane Heat

Charli Knott's maiden T20 hundred set up Brisbane Heat's first win of the season as they overcame Adelaide Strikers by 14 runs in Sydney. Knott's 104 off 61 was powered by 12 fours and four sixes as Heat posted 184 for 4. Laura Wolvaardt (75 off 48) and Madeline Penna (68 off 45) tried to take Strikers close but they eventually fell short, finishing with 170 for 5.

Asked to bat, Heat got off to a good start as Knott and Grace Harris combined for a 57-run opening stand. Skipper Georgia Redmayne struggled to get going before being dismissed for an 11-ball 7, but Knott ensured that the scoring rate did not suffer. She shared a 64-run stand for the third wicket with Yastika Bhatia, who also had a strike rate under 100, but Knott's regular boundaries negated the slow batting around her.

Knott reached her hundred in 56 balls before getting run out in the 18th over, with Yastika also run out in the next over. Orla Prendergast and Annie O' Neil came up with cameos to take Heat past 150.

Wolvaardt faced the bulk of the deliveries in her partnership with Maia Bouchier as Strikers got off to a steady start. Wolvaardt scored all the runs in her 34-run stand with Bouchier before the latter fell for a four-ball duck. Tahlia McGrath had a slow outing, scoring only 13 off 16 while Wolvaardt was also kept in check, resulting in a 30-run second wicket stand that took 31 deliveries.

Following McGrath's dismissal, Penna joined Wolvaardt and the duo upped the ante, adding 77 in quick time. Heat then hit back with quick wickets, leaving Strikers needing 37 off the last two overs. A tight penultimate over from Lucy Hamilton left Strikers with an equation of 30 in the final over. Penna struck a couple of fours and a six but the target proved beyond Strikers' reach.

Brief scores: Brisbane Heat 184/4 in 20 overs (Charli Knott 104 off 61, Orla Prendergast 16* off 6; Sophie Ecclestone 1-18) beat Adelaide Strikers 170/5 in 20 overs (Laura Wolvaardt 75 off 48, Madeline Penna 68 off 45; Sarah Glenn 2-19) by 14 runs.

Sydney Thunder vs Perth Scorchers

Perth Scorchers clinched a 17-run victory over Sydney Thunder, set up by skipper Beth Mooney's unbeaten 80 and a four-fer from Alana King. Asked to bat first by Thunder, Scorchers posted an imposing total of 183/3, wherein Mooney carried her bat. Thunder saw contributions right through the order after an early setback, but fell 17 short as King wrapped up the tail cheaply.

Following Katie Mack’s departure for 10, stumped off Jemma Barsby, Mooney combined with Sophie Devine in an 85-run stand for the second wicket. Devine struck 42 off 39 balls with three fours and a six before retiring hurt in the 17th over. Freya Kemp capitalized immediately, smashing a rapid 30 off just 10 balls featuring two fours and three sixes, to push the total past 170.

In response, Thunder faced an immediate setback when Chloe Ainsworth bowled Georgia Voll for a golden duck off the very first ball of the chase. Phoebe Litchfield mounted a spirited fightback, counterattacking with a brisk 34 off 19 deliveries that included five fours and a maximum. Anika Learoyd contributed 22 off 16 balls before being trapped leg-before by Devine.

When Litchfield fell to Ainsworth and Fatima Sana removed Nadine de Klerk for two, Thunder were left stuttering at 89 for 4. Heather Knight dropped anchor, making 27 off 26 deliveries, before Mooney stumped her off Devine’s bowling. Laura Harris then launched an explosive counter-offensive, blasting 29 off just 12 balls with three fours and two sixes, while Tahlia Wilson contributed 25 off 19.

However, King turned the game decisively in the Scorchers’ favour during the closing stages. King dismantled Thunder’s lower order by cleaning up Harris, Hannah Darlington (5), and Samantha Bates (0), alongside having Jemma Barsby (9) caught, finishing with magnificent figures of 4 for 35 in four overs to restrict them well short.
