Luka Doncic has started the 2026-27 season on fire in terms of scoring for the Los Angeles Lakers.
With their tight 124-118 Friday win over the Portland Trail Blazers, the Lakers are 8-2 to start the season as Doncic is now averaging 40.1 points per game.
He scored 53 points against the Blazers, adding five rebounds and five assists.
The Slovenian superstar has entered the Lakers' history books as only the fourth player in franchise history to score 40 points in fourth consecutive games, joining Elgin Baylor, Kobe Bryant and George Mikan.
Bryant was the last to achieve this feat before Doncic in the 2011-12 season.
More records for Doncic
Doncic's 361 points through the first nine games to start the season is the most in the modern NBA and the most since Wilt Chamberlain scored 472 in the 1962-63 season.
Luka has recorded his 62nd game with at least 40 points, five rebounds and five assists. He ties Michael Jordan for the most such games in NBA history, passing LeBron James in Wilt Chamberlain in the process.
He has scored 50 points in an NBA game for the 11th time across his career, passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and tying Allen Iverson for 10th most in NBA history.
Doncic has also tied Oscar Robertson for the longest streak of games with at least 35 points, five rebounds and five assists at seven games.
In those seven games, Luka has also made at least five three-pointers in each one, which makes him the first player in NBA history to record seven straight games with at least 35 points, five rebounds, five assists and five triples made.
