The Chennai semifinals bring together four players with contrasting routes to the last four. Janice Tjen continues her title defense after overcoming Polina Kudermetova, while Robin Montgomery has also progressed with a straight-sets win over home wildcard Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi. The other semifinal features Magda Linette and Anastasia Zakharova, who have both been in strong form throughout the week. With a place in the final on the line, here are our predictions for Saturday’s matches.
WTA Chennai Semifinal Predictions
Magda Linette vs Anastasia Zakharova
Head-to-Head: Linette 1–0 Zakharova
Magda Linette has looked increasingly assured in Chennai, following her straight-sets victory over Moyuka Uchijima with another composed performance in the quarterfinals after she was forced to recover from a set down. Zakharova has also impressed, reaching the semifinals without dropping a set in her last two matches.
Their previous meeting suggests Linette has the tools to handle Zakharova’s game, particularly when she can take control of the baseline exchanges. The Russian will need to be more aggressive and avoid allowing the Pole to dictate the tempo. Zakharova has the ability to make this competitive, but Linette’s experience and consistency should carry her through.
Prediction: Linette in 2
Janice Tjen vs Robin Montgomery
Head-to-Head: First meeting
The top seed continued her title defense by recovering from a set down to defeat sixth seed Polina Kudermetova in the quarterfinals. Montgomery, meanwhile, produced a controlled display against home wildcard Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi, winning in straight sets to reach the last four.
Tjen’s ability to absorb pressure and turn defence into attack has been a major strength this week. Montgomery has the power to trouble her, particularly if she can dictate with her forehand and keep the rallies short. However, the Indonesian has shown considerable resilience in difficult moments and will take confidence from her comeback against Kudermetova. Montgomery could push her, but Tjen’s consistency gives her the edge in what should be a closely contested match.
Prediction: Tjen in 3
