Xbox console owners now have more confirmation of how much storage space to reserve by the GTA 6 release date. Similar to Rockstar’s 212 GB estimate, Microsoft’s store lists 209.86 GB. Even so, leaked backend data hints at a larger pre-load download size than expected on the PS5.
Before the marketplace updated, Cokymoky shared data found on Microsoft's DisplayCatalog API. The global build serving most countries is 209.86 GiB (gibibytes), or 225.34 GB (gigabytes). Meanwhile, the ANZ version for New Zealand and Australia is roughly the same. However, the Japan build is slightly smaller at 208.74 GiB or 224.07 GB, potentially indicating censored content.
The API displays GTA 6 download sizes and may not reflect how much space the game will consume on an SSD after installation. The Xbox Store shows 209.86 GB, suggesting it actually uses the GiB unit or approximates the post-install file size. Regardless, because they employ distinct compression methods, Xbox games are often larger than on its rival console.
Another possibility is that the backend is including a day-one update. On October 27th, data mining by PlayStation Game Size uncovered that the GTA 6 download size was 210 GB on the PS5. If the Xbox version is beefier, a day-one patch may explain the discrepancy.
Cut content?
What’s notable is that the Japanese build differs from other regions. The upcoming Grand Theft Auto received an identical CERO Z (18+) age rating as GTA 4 and GTA 5. With the board strict about sexual or violent content, several scenes were removed from GTA 5. The GTA 6 PS5 file size will also vary according to worldwide, NZ/AU, and Japan regions, but exact numbers are unclear.
Pre-loads unlock on November 9th at 7 PM EST for the Xbox Series X and S. PlayStation supporters can begin preparing for the release date on November 10th at midnight local time. Rockstar warns the title will demand “up to 212 GB of available space, depending on your device.”
