An explosion was reported in an air conditioning unit at a police outpost in Ghaziabad’s Vasundhara late on Friday evening, with a 20-year-old delivery person injured in the incident.
The blast, which took place at around 9 pm, led to cracks on the walls and shattered window panes of the outpost, police officials said Saturday.
A sub-inspector and a delivery man were present in the outpost at the time of the incident, with the latter having arrived to deliver food.
“A blast took place when the two were inside. The blast led to cracks in walls and also broke the window glasses," Rijul, deputy commissioner of police of the Trans Hindon Zone, told HT. Rijul added, “Prima facie, a blast in the AC unit is suspected.”
The DCP said a piece of shattered glass from the damaged window panes had hit the delivery person's head. "The delivery man was taken to a hospital for treatment, and his condition is stable,” DCP added.
“We also called in the field unit, bomb unit, and also the fire department unit to check the site,” Rijul said.
Officials said the explosion did not cause any fire in the outpost, while maintaining that the exact cause of the incident was not known.
“It is an old outpost, and the exact cause is still not known. We are trying to find out. We are trying to check any passing sewer line or gas pipeline in case they may have resulted in the incident," the DCP said.
The DCP denied that the explosion was related to any explosive substance.
