A dispute over parking space and a dog in Faridabad's Sector 21C turned fatal on Friday night when the former regional business head of Tech Mahindra’s Asia-Pacific region was shot dead by his neighbour. The accused, who fled after opening fire at the victim, was arrested later.

Paramjith Dhankhar, who had returned from Singapore just a day earlier to celebrate Diwali with his family, was shot dead by his neighbour Mohan Sharma after an argument over parking escalated. Sharma allegedly fired 15 rounds, nine of which hit Dhankhar.

Parking, dog dispute between neighbours

Tensions between the two families had been mounting over Sharma’s dog defecating in the parking area. This prompted repeated objections from Dhankhar’s family. The disagreement had led to several confrontations over the past few days, including an argument four to five days before the shooting.

An argument broke out between Dhankhar and Sharma again on Friday night over car parking. Following this, Sharma allegedly called Dhankhar out of his house and shot him multiple times with his licensed pistol.

The two families lived in the same building, with Dhankhar’s family on the ground floor and Sharma’s on the second floor.

Accused arrested from Ballabgarh

Sharma had allegedly fled with his family following the fatal shooting. However, he was later arrested from Ballabgarh in Faridabad, police said.

“The suspect is being quizzed and will be produced before a Faridabad court and taken on police-remand for detailed interrogation,” Faridabad ACP (crime) Varun Kumar Dahiya said.

As reported by HT earlier, Dhankhar, was settled in Singapore and was working as the senior vice-president of a software company. He had arrived in India from Singapore on November 5 to celebrate Diwali with his family. He was also scheduled to attend his nephew’s wedding on November 24.

Dhankar's son Shaurya Dhankhar filed an FIR under section 103(1) (murder) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act was registered at Surajkund police station on Saturday, according to police.
