The TDP and its allies, the JSP and the BJP, continued their stellar performance in the elections to the Zilla and Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies (ZPTCs and MPTCs) after crushing the YSRCP in the Urban Local Body (ULB) polls. They were all set to pull off another decisive victory over the YSRCP.
Polling was conducted for 582 ZPTCs and 7,767 MPTCs in 28 districts on November 5 following the declaration of 77 and 2,051 ZPTCs and MPTCs respectively as unanimously elected.
As per information furnished by the State Election Commission (SEC) at 9 p.m. on Saturday (November 7, 2026), the TDP won a total of 229 ZPTCs, including 71 unanimous and 158 contested, JSP 36 (2 unanimous and 34 contested) and BJP 8 (three unanimous and 5 contested), whereas the YSRCP managed to win 20 (one unanimous and 19 contested).
In the MPTCs, the TDP won 4,823 (1,780 unanimous and 3,043 conttested), JSP 644 (107 unanimous and 537 contested), the BJP 130 (53 unanimous and 77 contested) and YSRCP 1,050 (89 unanimous and 961 contested).
State Election Commissioner Anil Chandra Punetha stated in a press release that the counting process was still underway and progressing peacefully.
The TDP won most of the ZPTCs and MPTCs in Kadapa district, which had been the stronghold of the YSRCP.
After scoring an impressive victory in the elections to the Pulivendula Municipality, the TDP won the Pulivendula ZPTC also, causing a major upset to the YSRCP, which apparently lost the confidence of the people in what had been the stronghold of the Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy family.
The TDP was in the driver’s seat in the ZPTC seat of Kuppam (Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s home turf) and in a vast majority of the other ZPTCs, and MPTCs in Chittoor and Annamayya districts.
Reacting to the results that were coming in, IT Minister Nara Lokesh described the TDP-led coalition’s overwhelming triumph in the ZPTC and MPTC elections as the “fruits of their good governance and proof of the perfect coordination among the ruling parties.”
TDP State president Palla Srinivasa Rao said the mood was overwhelmingly in favour of his party and its allies due to their good governance, and it was a profound mandate for welfare, development and social justice.
The results were a testament to the trust placed by the electorate in Mr. Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan, and the BJP State leadership, he asserted.
A BJP spokesman said the large number of votes, which the party got, proved that the people believed in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
Meanwhile, YSRCP leaders alleged that the counting of votes polled in the ZPTCs and MPTCs was fraught with irregularities and the SEC’s response to their complaints was untimely.
