Stumps West Indies 235 for 4 (Jangoo 111*, Wickham 61, Greaves 35*, Mahmud 2-58) vs Bangladesh
Amir Jangoo pulled West Indies out of early trouble as the visitors finished in a strong position at the end of the first day against Bangladesh in Sylhet. Bad light stopped play twice before it ended the day at 4.08 pm local time.
Jangoo's second Test century, in his tenth innings, formed the backbone of their 235 for four at stumps. He remained unbeaten on 111 off 171 balls with eleven fours and two sixes, the second of which got him to the three-figure mark during the third session of the day.
Jangoo added 131 for the fourth wicket with debutant Kevin Wickham who made 61 off 145 balls. He then put up an unbroken 77-run stand for the fifth wicket with Justin Greaves, unbeaten on 35.
West Indies suffered several blows early in the morning, even before the match started. They lost John Campbell and Tagenarine Chanderpaul to viral fever, which required them to send Joshua Da Silva to open the innings for the first time in his Test career.
Taskin made life a little more difficult when he burst through Brandon King, flattening his middle and leg stumps, in the fifth over. Mahmud responded with Kavem Hodge's wicket in the next over, after giving him a work-over leading up to the dismissal. Hodge left the ball on length, as it clipped his off bail. Taskin then removed Da Silva for 12, after he missed an in-ducker and was out lbw.
Jangoo hardly allowed Bangladesh back into the game, playing well-timed drives and pulls. Wickham was more proactive after lunch, going after Taskin, while Jangoo continued to attack at his end.
He started the second session with a flat-batted pull off Taskin, before launching Nayeem Hasan for a powerful six over midwicket. Later in the same Nayeem over, Wickham reached his half-century.
