The iPhone Duo started shipping about two weeks ago, and app support has been one of the early talking points. Today, Apple claims there are already well over 100,000 apps built for the foldable live on the App Store, with thousands of optimized titles being added each day.

Susan Prescott, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations, says developers have moved quickly to embrace the handset. Recent examples include Microsoft's Excel, OneNote, PowerPoint, and Word, along with Etsy, Goodnotes, Halide Mark III, NBA, NHL, Zoom, Amazon Prime Video, Fantastical, Flighty, Instagram, MLB, Netflix, SmartGym, WhatsApp, and YouTube. Optimized apps get a Made for iPhone Duo badge on their App Store product pages on the device.
Apple has also been pushing workshops to speed things up - more than 50 in-person sessions in 19 cities over the past month, with over 2,000 developers attending in total, according to the company. Apps that use standard SwiftUI and UIKit components can adapt automatically to each display, and new APIs cover custom layouts and hinge poses. Older builds still run, but they don't always fill the inner display the way fully optimized apps do.
Of course, with millions of App Store titles overall, plenty of apps still aren't optimized yet - Google Maps only just caught up, for example. Apple says the pace of updates should keep climbing from here.
